An atmospheric psychological horror film about two sisters, who return home after undergoing treatment in a psychiatric establishment. They are met by their stepmother, whom the older sister, Su-mi, ignores, and the younger, Su-yeon, is afraid of. She becomes frantic when Su-mi tells her the very first night that someone is in her room. The sisters feel that the new circumstances are conspiring against them, especially the younger sister, who is continually mistreated and humiliated by the stepmother. Their father refuses to acknowledge that his wife could be capable of meanness, what’s more, he is becoming increasingly concerned for Su-mi’s mental health; he keeps trying to make her understand that Su-yeon is dead.

Režijski prvenec Pulitzerjevega nagrajenca, sicer slovitega dramatika Davida Mameta. V njem je ustvaril stilistično kinematografsko zloženko igre v igri, kompleksno pripoved organizirano v izjemen filmski scenarij. Dr. Margaret Ford je pisateljica psiholoških “pomagaj si sam” priročnikov, obenem pa tudi sama pomaga pacientom. Z namenom, da bi pomagala svoji stranki, ki je zapadla v hazarderske dolgove, obišče bar kjer Mike  vodi igre pokra. Mike je namreč tista oseba, ki ji je Margaretin pacient dolžan največ denarja. Obenem pa je to tudi zelo sugestivna oseba, ki Margaret prepriča, naj mu pri igri pomaga; njena naloga je opazovati “znake” (telesne gibe, mimika obraza ipd…). Toda, kar se je Margaret zdela lahka naloga, s časom postane zelo zahtevno in tudi intrigantno opravilo, ki doktorico tako prevzame, da tudi sama postane odvisna od sleparskega početja…  -RTV SLO

Drama set in a repressed, deeply religious community in the north of Scotland, where a naive young woman named Bess McNeil meets and falls in love with Danish oil-rig worker Jan. Bess and Jan are deeply in love but, when Jan returns to his rig, Bess prays to God that he returns for good. Jan does return, his neck broken in an accident aboard the rig. Because of his condition, Jan and Bess are now unable to enjoy a sexual relationship and Jan urges Bess to take another lover and tell him the details. As Bess becomes more and more deviant in her sexual behavior, the more she comes to believe that her actions are guided by God and are helping Jan recover.

Travis (Harry Dean Stanton) is wandering through the Texas desert, a bit shaky and in desperate need of water, when he stumbles into a bar and collapses. A German doctor of dubious credentials finds a phone number in Travis' wallet, which belongs to his brother, Walt (Dean Stockwell). Walt is shocked to hear about his brother's condition, since no one in the family has seen or heard from Travis in four years; Walt flies to Texas to bring him home, only to find Travis wandering by the side of the road, and they begin the long drive back to Los Angeles, where Walt lives with his wife, Anne (Aurore Clement), and Hunter (Hunter Carson), Travis' seven-year-old son. At first, Travis refuses to speak and is oddly distant, but in time he begins to talk again, and when he arrives in California, he begins the painful process of reacquainting himself with his son and trying to reconcile with his wife, Jane (Nastassia Kinski).

The film is set in Arnhem Land, in a time before Western contact, and tells the story of a group of ten men hunting goose eggs. The leader of the group, Minygululu, tells the young Dayindi (Jamie Gulpilil) a story about another young man even further back in time who, like Dayindi, coveted his elder brother's youngest wife. The sequences featuring Dayindi and the hunt are in black and white, while shots set in distant past are in colour. All protagonists speak in indigenous languages of the Yolŋu Matha language group, with subtitles. The film is narrated in English by David Gulpilil, although versions of the film without narration, and featuring narration in Yolŋu Matha, are also available.

Minygululu tells a story of the great warrior Ridjimiraril, who suspects a visiting stranger of kidnapping his second wife. In a case of mistaken identity, Ridjimiraril kills a member of a neighbouring tribe. To prevent all-out war, tribal laws dictate that the offending tribe allow the offender to be speared from a distance by the tribe of the slain man. The offender is allowed to be accompanied by a companion, and he takes his younger brother. Whenever one of the two is hit, the spear-throwers will stop, and justice will have been served. Ridjimiraril is hit and mortally wounded but survives long enough to return to his camp, where he is tended to by his eldest wife. After he finally succumbs, the elder brother's kidnapped second wife finds her way back to the camp. She reveals that she had been kidnapped by a different tribe, much farther away and had taken this long to return. She mourns her lost husband, who had attacked the wrong tribe, though now she and the elder wife take his younger brother as their new husband. The younger brother, who was only interested in the youngest of the three wives, now has to care for all of them, and satisfying their many and constant demands is much more than he bargained for.

Minygululu tells this story in the hope that Dayindi learns of the added responsibilities of a husband and elder statesman in the tribe, and in the end we see Dayindi withdrawing from his pursuit of Minygululu's young wife. -Via Wikipedia
