Film Nedolžne, najnovejša mojstrsko dovršena stvaritev režiserke Anne Fontaine (Coco Chanel, Občudovani), se dogaja leta 1945 na Poljskem. Zgodba temelji na resničnih dogodkih iz časa tik po drugi svetovni vojni. Mathilde, mlado zdravnico iz francoskega Rdečega križa, obupana in prestrašena nuna zaprosi za pomoč pri nujnem primeru. Ko prispeta v samostan, kjer med kamnitimi zidovi odmevajo kriki bolečine, Mathilde osupne ob pogledu na redovnico sredi poroda. Mlada zdravnica spravi otroka na svet, nato pa začne polagoma odkrivati nepopisno nočno moro, ki je samostanu prinesla to gorje. Pod bremenom krivde in sramu nekatere nune izkusijo krizo vere, ne le v popuščanju predanosti Bogu, temveč tudi v krhanju stroge hierarhije in zapovedi poslušnosti v samostanu, medtem ko se pobožnost drugih še okrepi. Film s sijajno igralsko zasedbo in prefinjeno fotografijo tankočutno ustvari vzdušje zaupnosti, ki presega tipične vojne drame. Elegantni pristop Fontainove nadomesti nazorne prikaze nasilja s pritajeno, a pretresljivo refleksijo o brutalnosti in hromečem strahu, ki spremljata vojno, ter o trdoživosti, ki pomaga ljudem prebroditi tragedije in ohraniti upanje.

Set in Poland during the winter of 1945, Anne Fontaine’s (Coco Before Chanel, Adore) masterful and accomplished The Innocents is based on actual events in the aftermath of World War II. Mathilde, a young doctor for the French Red Cross, is summoned by a desperate and frightened nun to attend to an emergency. They arrive at the abbey as pained cries echo through the stony walls to find a young sister in labor. Mathilde delivers the baby and is drawn into the private world of the nuns as they confide the indescribable nightmare that led to their predicament. Burdened by guilt and shame, the nuns experience a crisis of faith, not only in their commitment to God, but in the strict hierarchy and demands of obedience of the convent; many have their faith tested while others find theirs strengthened. Anchored by strong performances and graceful cinematography, The Innocents transcends the typical war-torn drama in its intimacy and delicate nuance. Fontaine’s elegant approach eschews graphic depictions of violence for quiet but powerful rumination on the brutality and pervasive fear of war and on the resilience that allows people to emerge from tragedy with a sense of hope.

The main weakness of the film lies in its reluctant hero who is supposed to be the center of the story but mostly hovers around the fringe of its main actions instead. Choi Min-sik is engaging as usual, but his character usually stands back from the circumstance as adamantly rejecting his former colleagues’ requests, and the conflict between Man-deok and his naïve son who wants to follow his father’s footsteps despite Man-deok’s objection is predictable and clichéd in its development. Carigrad zajame val političnega nasilja. Hamza, policist na visokem položaju, ponudi Kadiru pogojni izpust iz zapora, če sprejme delo v novi obveščevalni enoti kot zbiralec odpadkov. Kadir sprejme ponudbo in začne zbirati odpadke iz barakarskih naselij ter preverja, ali so med njimi materiali za izdelavo razstreliv. V eni od teh sosesk najde Kadir svojega mlajšega brata Ahmeta, ki dela v občinski enoti, zadolženi za odstranjevanje potepuških psov. Ahmet se kljub Kadirovi vztrajnosti noče zbližati z bratom, kar Kadirja privede do kovanja teorij zarote, da bi pojasnil Ahmetovo zadržanost.

Istanbul is in the grip of political violence. Hamza, a high-ranking police officer offers Kadir a conditional release from prison. To be released he has to accept to work in the new intelligence unit of garbage collectors. Kadir accepts, and starts collecting trash from the shanty towns, checking to see whether it contains material related to bomb-making. Kadir finds his younger brother Ahmet in one of those neighborhoods. Ahmet works at the municipality as part of a team responsible for destroying stray dogs. Ahmet’s unwillingness to bond with Kadir as brothers, in spite of Kadir’s insistance, leads Kadir to plot conspiracy theories to explain Ahmet’s distance.

Mesmerizing Alexandre Goyette stars in a highly kinetic film version of his own play about a rather less than ordinary Quebecker whose default self-loathing is aggressively masked by an insanely macho grandiosity that—even just to hear him tell it—is bound to get a guy in trouble!

Tell it he does, facing the audience as he slips seamlessly from one setting to the next in what appears to be a single take. And all this while still relating (to put it politely) to the various gangsters, hustlers, drinking pals, and unlikely girlfriends he literally runs into along the way. Like its self-proclaimed monarch, the movie skirts the edges of race, class, and gender stereotypes, but it’s not really about anything at all. Sure is fun, though.

15. januarja 2009 je bil svet priča Čudežu na reki Hudson, ko je pilot Sully Sullenberger uspel rešiti življenje 155 potnikom letala, ki ga je pilotiral. Letalo US Airwaysa na letu 1549 je poletelo iz newyorškega letališča LaGuardia proti Charlotte v Severni Karolini, toda kmalu po vzletu je pilot sporočil kontrolnemu stolpu, da se je letalo zaletelo v jato divjih gosi, kar je povzročilo požar v vsaj enem od motorjev. Pilot Sullenberger se je takrat odločil pristati na reki Hudson, potniki pa so pozneje pripovedovali, kako je letalo gladko pristalo na vodi in lebdelo na rečni gladini, ker so bili motorji ugasnjeni. The restless spirits of Portugal’s post-colonial underclass stumble dazedly though the wilds of “Horse Money,” the latest — and in some respects the most striking — of director Pedro Costa’s hallucinatory bulletins from the Lisbon slum known as Fontainhas. Already reduced to rubble at the time of Costa’s previous feature, the polarizing Cannes competition entry “Colossal Youth,” the Fontainhas of “Horse Money” exists only as memory and myth, its displaced residents — led once again by Costa’s non-pro muse, the septuagenarian construction worker known as Ventura — ever more adrift and further from home. Less overtly “difficult” than some of Costa’s work, “Horse Money” still lacks a traditional narrative structure and demands a patient, inquisitive audience, but the director’s cult of admirers has been growing (as evidenced by a Criterion DVD set of the first three Fontainhas features) and should continue to do so with this strange, hauntingly beautiful effort.

He moves to Keele University, where Mary has a cleaning job, appointing himself the unofficial greeter to new students, a role rewarded by an honorary degree in 2013. He also gets to manage its unofficial football team, named after him, and in 1992 talks his way into becoming the kit man and mascot of his beloved football team Stoke City. For Neil there are no boundaries - his interest in religion leads to his becoming a lay preacher whilst he presents himself at the House of Commons for tea with MP Tony Benn and at Cambridge University, where he strikes up a friendship with Prince Andrew, which results in his being on the queen's Christmas card list.
