Resnična zgodba o vzponu in padcu najbolj zloglasnih londonskih gangsterjev Reggieja in Ronnieja Kraya, ki sta v veselih šestdesetih imela v pesti ves London, se začne kmalu potem, ko Ronnija izpustijo iz zapora. Brata kanita utrditi svoj vpliv in premoč v vzhodnem delu Londona, pri tem pa se spopadata z gangsterjem Charliejem Richardsonom in njegovo tolpo, ki prevladuje na jugu Londona, in sodelujeta z ameriško mafijo, ki bi se iz Havane želela premestiti v britansko prestolnico. Takoj postaneta prava zvezdnika in dvorijo jima bogati in slavni, njun vpliv pa sega vse do visokih položajev v britanskih državnih uradih.

Rick Alverson (1971) is a filmmaker from Richmond, Virginia. His dramatic feature The Comedy (2012) premiered in competition at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. His first feature, The Builder, was released by the renowned independent record label Jagjaguwar in 2010. New Jerusalem (2011), his second feature, starring Colm O'leary (The Builder) and Will Oldham (Matewan, Old Joy), and premiered at the 40th International Film Festival Rotterdam and SXSW in 2011. That same year he was awarded a Visual Arts Fellowship from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. He has directed videos for Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen, Bonny Prince Billy, Benjamin Booker and among others. In addition to his directorial work he has released 9 records on Jagjaguwar, most recently with his band Spokane in 2007. In 2015 he finished his fourth feature, Entertainment.

Gregg Turkington had previously appeared in director Rick Alverson's The Comedy. Alverson proposed to Turkington the idea of making a film based on his character Neil Hamburger. The two discussed what Hamburger's character would be like off stage, both finding that his life would be dull and not very dynamic. Turkington had been previously offered to make a film or television programs revolving around the character approaching people in the street which he felt was wrong for the character and was far more interested in a film that he described as a "Two-Lane Blacktop” art film kind of vibe."

The film's script was written by Alverson, Turkington and Tim Heidecker. The film's dialogue is improvised. Turkington described the dialogue as "really more based on descriptions of the tone or the mood that was needed in particular scenes, and kind of running with that.

Turkington and Alverson initially disagreed on some aspects of the Neil Hamburger character, such as never showing the character without his glasses and never showing the character talking in a normal voice. Alverson felt the film wouldn't be credible if Turkington constantly spoke in his Neil Hamburger voice. Among the locations Hamburger visits in the film is an aircraft boneyard. No actual tours take place at the location which was part of a military facility in Mojave, California, which allowed them a few hours to film where the could only shoot the film in certain directions.

Making a Murderer is an American web television series that first streamed on Netflix on December 18, 2015. The ten-part documentary, written and directed by Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, explores the story of Steven Avery, a Manitowoc County, Wisconsin man, who served 18 years in prison for the sexual assault and attempted murder of Penny Beerntsen, before being exonerated in 2003. In 2005 he was arrested in connection with the murder of Teresa Halbach, a local photographer, and convicted in 2007. The series also covers the arrest, prosecution, and conviction of Avery's nephew, Brendan Dassey, who was also charged in the murder.

The series was filmed over the course of ten years, with the creators moving back and forth from New York City to Wisconsin during filming. To promote the series, Netflix released the first episode concurrently on YouTube and on Netflix streaming, which it had not done for any other original programming.

The series was favorably compared to the HBO series The Jinx and the podcast Serial. Making a Murderer generated considerable controversy, both in Manitowoc County, where the documentary is set, and nationwide. A petition to the White House to pardon Avery garnered more than 128,000 signatures. In response, President Barack Obama stated he had no authority to act in a state case.

Making a Murderer details the life of Steven Avery, a Wisconsin man whose family owned an auto salvage yard in Manitowoc County. In 1985, Avery was arrested and convicted of the sexual assault of Penny Beerntsen, despite having an alibi. After serving 18 years in prison, Avery was exonerated with the aid of the Innocence Project, when the DNA in the case was matched to another man guilty of crimes in the area. After Avery was released from prison in 2003, he filed a $36 million civil lawsuit against Manitowoc County and several county officials associated with his first arrest. Soon after filing the lawsuit, he was accused of the murder of Teresa Halbach, a photographer who was seen on the Avery family property to photograph a minivan for sale.

Making a Murderer explores issues and procedures in the Manitowoc County sheriff's department that led to Avery's original conviction. It suggests the county officials had a conflict of interest in participating in the investigation of Halbach's murder. Brendan Dassey, Avery's nephew, was also accused and convicted as an accomplice in the murder. The series depicts his trial as well. (Wikipedia)

[Komentar]

Izjemna dokumentarna serija ne osvetljuje zgolj zgodbe kar dvakrat nepravično obsojenega nesrečnika, ampak nam v bogatem subtekstu ponudi zares imenitno, srh zbujajočo študijo razrednih razmerij v ZDA in ničkaj prijetno podobo ameriškega srednjega razreda.

Maja, Ivo and their 17-year-old son Tomica are an ordinary family from Zagreb. Maja and Ivo are nearing retirement and are struggling financially while Tomica is unemployed after graduating from high school.

One day, for no apparent reason, Tomica is attacked and beaten by a group of kids in the street. The next day, he suffers from a strong headache. His parents take him to hospital, but the doctors find only minor injuries. Soon after, Tomica collapses and slides into a coma, and it becomes clear that his condition is life-threatening. Maja and Ivo are suddenly thrown into a challenging situation, in which they decide to fight against the apathetic system.

The film's screenplay is inspired by a real-life 2008 incident in which Luka Ritz, an 18-year-old high school graduate, died of injuries sustained in a seemingly senseless attack by a group of teens. His case received high-profile media coverage in Croatia and led to the establishment of the national Luka Ritz Award for the promotion of tolerance and non-violence in schools. 

This event made me think about his parents, and how they dealt with this tragedy. I imagined ordinary people, who had always obeyed the laws and the rules. But now, when they are faced with this horrible tragedy, no one wants to help them, and they are unable to do anything about it. No one listens to them, no one cares, they are simply not important. These people represent the majority that suffers quietly, and also carries on through the injustices done to them. My story is dedicated to these people.(Ognjen Sviličić)

This the story of the Rayburn family. It blends family drama with a touch of mystery and film noir. The family runs a beachfront resort in the Florida Keys where they are respected by most of the locals, but resented by some others. While the anchor of the show is Sheriff John Rayburn, much of the first season storyline centers around the homecoming of Danny - the designated black sheep of the family - and how it impacts the family dynamic.

Kessler, Glenn Kessler, and Daniel Zelman, and produced by Sony Pictures Television.The series premiered on February 9, 2015, in the Berlinale Special Galas section of the 65th Berlin International Film Festival, and the 13-episode first season premiered in its entirety, on Netflix, on March 20, 2015.

The first season received strong reviews from many critics, with some naming Bloodline the best Netflix original series when it debuted and praising its performances (particularly for Kyle Chandler, Ben Mendelsohn, and Sissy Spacek), writing, cinematography, and directing. On March 31, 2015, Bloodline was officially renewed for a second season to debut in 2016.

[Moj komentar]

Zelo zanimiva igralska zasedba in dobre kritike so me pritegnile k seriji, ki je »na papirju« imela močne argumente. Na koncu se je izkazalo, da zgodba, o na zunaj idealni, a v resnici zelo disfunkcionalni družini, vendarle nima dovolj adutov za vrhunski dosežek. Ob nekaj uvodnih epizodah sem se dolgočasil in celo razmišljal o tem, da »eksperiment« enostavno prekinem (preveč nepotrebnih dialogov in ponavljanja). Toda serija v drugi polovici prve sezone ujame ritem in skozi ciljno črto priteče s solidnim končnim rezultatom. Glavni plusi:  Ben Mendelsohn, Kyle Chandler in Chloë Sevigny, v točno takšnem vrstnem redu.

Film, ki je navdih našel v resničnih dogodkih, je epska pripoved o preživetju in o preobrazbi (v) prostranosti Amerike. Legendarnega raziskovalca Hugha Glassa (Leonardo DiCaprio) med odpravo v še neraziskano divjino grdo izmaliči medved, člani njegove lovske odprave pa ga zapustijo in prepustijo samemu sebi. Osamljen in na robu smrti se Glass ne vda obupu – poganjata ga neizmerna volja in ljubezen do žene Indijanke in sina; poda se na 320 km dolgo odisejado po prostranem in neukročenem Zahodu, da izsledi možakarja, ki ga je bil izdal: Johna Fitzgeralda (Tom Hardy). A kar se začne kot neutrudno iskanje maščevanja, postane junaška saga o vztrajnosti, o povratku domov in o odrešitvi.

Mit Hugha Glassa se je začela leta 1823, ko je med tisočimi drugimi v trgovini s krznom pomagal na novo zagnati gospodarstvo Združenih držav. V tem času so mnogi na divjino gledali kot na nekaj brezdušnega; na nekaj, kar mora biti ukročeno. Drveli so v neznano, iskali še neodkrite reke, izginjali v neskončne goste gozdove in se pri tem gnali ne le za vznemirjenji in pustolovščinami, temveč tudi za zaslužkom – pogosto tekmujoč z indijanskimi plemeni, ki jim je bilo to ozemlje dom že stoletja.

Mnogi so pri tem umirali brez sledu, Glass pa se je v ameriško folkloro prebil kot nekdo, ki smrti ni hotel podleči. Njegova legenda je zaživela po srečanju z eno najhujših nevarnosti Zahoda – z grizlijem. Tudi za najbolj preizkušene raziskovalce je bil to običajno konec. V pripovedi z oskarjem nagrajenega režiserja Alejandra G. Iñárrituja se izmaličeni Glass oklepa življenja, potem ga čaka izdajstvo, ki ga samo še podžge; spravi se iz prezgodnjega groba in se pregrize skozi nepoznane nevarnosti in neznane kulture ter celo opusti misel na neizprosen obračun s tistimi, ki so ga bili izdali.
